URL Encoder

Convert spaces, symbols and special characters into percent-encoded values that are safe for URLs and query strings.

Your text is encoded locally in your browser and never uploaded.

How to use URL Encoder

  1. Paste the text or URL component you want to encode.
  2. Choose what to encode — everything, or only query-string components.
  3. Copy the encoded output.

About this tool

URLs can only contain a limited set of characters. Spaces, &, ?, = and non-ASCII text must be percent-encoded before they can be used in a link or query string.

This tool offers both encodeURIComponent-style encoding (for values) and full encoding (for whole URLs or path segments).

When to use it: building links with user input, search terms or special characters in parameters.

Frequently asked questions

Which encoding mode should I use?
Use “Components” to encode a query value like a search term. Use “Everything” to encode a complete URL or path, where characters like / and : must be encoded too.
Why must URLs be encoded at all?
URLs allow only a limited character set. Spaces, &, #, = and non-ASCII text must be percent-encoded, or the link breaks or means something else.
What is the difference between %20 and +?
%20 is an encoded space anywhere in a URL; a plus sign means space only inside query strings, by convention.
Should I encode a whole URL?
No — encode only the values you insert, such as search terms or parameter values. Encoding the entire URL would destroy the :// and / structure.
Are encoded URLs bad for SEO?
Encoded parameters are fine. For readable content paths, prefer clean slugs — the Slug Generator makes them for you.
Does encoding affect upper- and lowercase?
Letters stay as typed; only the hex digits of percent-codes are conventionally written in uppercase, like %2F.
