Number Base Converter

Enter a number in any base and instantly see its binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal representations.

All conversions happen in your browser.

How to use Number Base Converter

  1. Choose the base of the number you are entering.
  2. Type the number.
  3. All four representations update instantly.
  4. Copy any value you need.

About this tool

Programmers constantly move between bases: binary for bit operations, hex for memory addresses and colours, decimal for everything else. This converter keeps all four views in sync so you never have to do the arithmetic by hand.

It uses arbitrary-precision integers, so even very large values — like 64-bit numbers — convert exactly.

When to use it: reading memory dumps, color codes, permissions and bit flags.

Frequently asked questions

Can it convert large numbers?
Yes. The tool uses BigInt arithmetic, so values far beyond 32-bit and 64-bit ranges convert exactly.
Does it handle fractions or negative numbers?
Negative integers are supported (shown in two’s complement for binary only when the bit width allows). Fractions are not supported — this tool works with whole numbers.
Where is each base actually used?
Binary for bits and flags, hexadecimal for colors and memory addresses, octal for Unix file permissions, and decimal for everything human.
Why do hex colors have six digits?
Two hex digits per color channel — 00 to FF, i.e. 0 to 255 — for red, green and blue, the same ranges as RGB values.
Do I need to type a 0x prefix?
No — enter plain digits for the base you selected. The 0x prefix is a programming convention, not part of the value.
Why does binary get so long so quickly?
Each binary digit doubles the range, so 255 already needs eight bits and a 64-bit number is a 64-character string — which is exactly why hex is used as shorthand.
