Hash Generator

Compute cryptographic hashes of text right in your browser using the Web Crypto API — no data is sent to a server.

Hashing runs locally in your browser using the Web Crypto API. Your text is never sent anywhere.

How to use Hash Generator

  1. Type or paste the text you want to hash.
  2. The SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes are computed automatically.
  3. Copy the hash you need.

About this tool

Hashes are fixed-length fingerprints of data. They are used for checksums, verifying file integrity, storing passwords (with salting) and building data structures.

This tool computes all four common SHA variants using your browser’s built-in Web Crypto API, so even sensitive text never leaves your device.

When to use it: checksums, integrity checks and quick SHA fingerprints of text.

Frequently asked questions

Why is MD5 not included?
MD5 is cryptographically broken and unsuitable for security use, so we only offer the SHA family. If you need MD5 for a legacy system, check the compatibility note below.
Is a hash reversible?
No. Hashing is one-way. The same input always produces the same hash, but you cannot recover the original text from the hash.
Is hashing the same as encryption?
No. Encryption can be reversed with a key; hashing cannot be reversed at all. Hashes are for verification, not for protecting messages.
Which SHA should I use?
SHA-256 is the modern default for checksums and integrity checks; SHA-512 where you want extra margin; SHA-1 only for legacy compatibility.
Will the same text always give the same hash?
Yes — that determinism is exactly what makes hashes useful for verifying downloads and detecting changes.
Can I hash a whole file here?
This tool hashes text. For files, hash their textual content or use a dedicated checksum utility; the principle is identical.
