About this tool

Sales rarely come with the maths already done. This calculator shows the price after discount, the exact amount saved, and — when you only know the before and after prices — the effective discount rate.

When to use it: sale shopping and checking what a deal really saves.

Frequently asked questions

Does it support fixed-amount discounts?
Yes — the “fixed amount” mode subtracts a flat sum (like a £10 voucher) instead of a percentage.
How is the discount calculated?
Savings = price × percent ÷ 100, and the final price is the original minus the savings — the result appears as you type.
How do stacked discounts combine?
In sequence, not by adding: 20% off and then 10% off is 28% off overall, not 30%.
Does the price include tax?
The tool works on whatever number you enter. If your shelf price already includes tax, the result does too.
Any quick mental trick for sale racks?
Find 10% by moving the decimal point, halve it for 5%, and combine: 15% = 10% + 5%. Fast enough while shopping.
Can I work backwards from two prices?
Yes — the second mode computes the effective discount percentage from the old and new price.
