Your text is sorted locally in your browser and never uploaded.

  2. Choose a sorting method.
  3. Press “Sort”.
  4. Copy or download the sorted list.

About this tool

Alphabetizing a list of names, keywords or tasks by hand is slow and mistake-prone. The sorter handles alphabetical, reverse-alphabetical, numeric and length sorting, plus a random shuffle for drawing winners or mixing a list.

When to use it: alphabetizing names, ordering numbers, or tidying data before pasting it elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

How does numeric sorting work?
Lines are compared as numbers, so “10” comes after “9” instead of after “1”. Lines that are not numbers are treated as zero.
Does sorting change my original text?
No — the result appears in the output box and the original stays available until you edit it.
Can I sort a list of names?
Yes — alphabetical sorting handles names fine; keep one name per line for correct results.
Do dates sort correctly?
Only in YYYY-MM-DD format, which happens to sort correctly as plain text. Other date formats should be converted first, or they will sort by their first characters.
Does sorting remove duplicates too?
No — sorting and deduplicating are separate jobs. Run the Remove Duplicate Lines tool before or after sorting, whichever fits your workflow.
How large can my list be?
Sorting happens in your browser, and lists of tens of thousands of lines sort quickly.
