Image Pixelator

Turn any image into chunky pixels. Drag the slider to control the pixel size and watch the preview update live — go subtle for a stylized effect or heavy to completely obscure faces, license plates and text. Download the result as PNG or JPG, processed locally in your browser.

Pixelation happens entirely in your browser — the private details in your photo never leave your device.

How to use Image Pixelator

  1. Drop an image into the box or click to browse.
  2. Drag the pixel size slider — larger means chunkier and more obscured.
  3. Check the preview until the effect is right.
  4. Press “Download” to save the pixelated image.

About this tool

Pixelation is the classic way to anonymize people and sensitive details in screenshots and photos, and it is also a fun retro style for graphics and album art.

Unlike a blur, heavy pixelation truly destroys fine detail: each block becomes one flat color, making the original information unrecoverable.

Frequently asked questions

Is pixelation safe for censoring?
At a large enough pixel size, yes — each block is flattened to a single color and the original detail is discarded. Use a block size clearly bigger than the feature you are hiding.
How is this different from blurring?
A blur softens detail but can sometimes be partly reversed with sharpening tools. Pixelation replaces detail with flat blocks, which is why news outlets use it for anonymity.
Does the output keep the original dimensions?
Yes. The image keeps its full width and height; only the level of detail changes.
Can I pixelate just part of the image?
This tool applies the effect to the whole image. To censor one area, crop that area out first with the Image Cropper, pixelate it, then combine the pieces with the Image Combiner.
Which format should I download?
PNG keeps the flat blocks perfectly sharp. JPG works too and produces smaller files for photos.
